I’m by no means a bible thumper; I could’ve made a career out of sinning. Yet, in all the bad things I have ever done, I never lost faith in something more pure and beautiful that guides the world to make it a better place. I have hit rock bottom more then any aging rock star; the higher you go in life, the farther the pit we fall down in. At one of my lowest points in life, I had no where else to turn. I asked God for a sign, an omen; for better days to come. I remember reading something about a man who would flip through the bible to a random passage, he would always find the guidance he needed at the most crucial times in his life. Well, it can’t hurt if I try it just this once. I was so low and depressed I would try anything at that point; I started my random flipping through until the pages seemed to come to a stop for me.
My name is Jonathan, I always considered it to be a modern name. I had no idea of it having any bible references what so ever. So when the pages stopped at a random passage with my name in it; I was in awe. I have always considered myself a fighter; I have never back down from anyone or anything that threatened me. Moreover, I have always had a great interest in enlightened philosophy. I contribute that to being a seeker of all things good and evil. So here it is… Samuel I, chapter 14: “…And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food. And all they of the land came to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground. And when the people were come into the wood, behold the honey dropped; but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath. But Jonathan heard not when his farther charged the people with the oath: wherefore he put forth the end of his rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his month; and his eyes were enlightened. And answered one of the people, and said. Thy father straitly charged the people with an oath, saying Cursed be the man that eateth any food this day. And the people were faint. Then said Jonathan, My father hath trouble the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.” Samuel 1, 14. This passage was so close to the truth in my heart: I have always tasted the dangerous honeys in life. Yet, for me it was the path that was necessary to bring me where in needed to go; because it was in my darkest hours that I found my true light; A light I know shall never leave me. My prayer was answered that day, and I shall never forget it for as long as I live.
